A Congregationalist, he is author of the classic, in reprint by Banner of Truth now for nearly 50 years, An Earnest Ministry. The Want of the Times. He also wrote a companion work, The Church in Earnest, which is worthy of modern readership. Always, the pastor, and always concerned with tangible piety, he authored works on marriage, on
